September Group meeting

The next Sydney PHP Group meeting is on for September 4th 2008, 6:30pm at CodeGear office, Sydney.

For this meeting, we’ll kick off our series introducing the new features available in the upcoming PHP 5.3 release. and take a look at PHP integration with IIS7.

Read on below for presentation details.

Meetings are a great place to network with (bring your business cards) and meet other developers in the Sydney region, possibly find development work and generally discuss tips and tricks in PHP development face to face with your peers. We currently have upwards of 30 attendees per meeting so please make sure you RSVP prior to coming so that adequate food and drinks can be provided.

1. PHP integration with IIS7 - Jorke Odolphi and Nick Hodge (Microsoft)

Jorke and Nick will provide some insight into recent improvements in IIS support of PHP, including:

  • quick overview of IIS7.0
  • recent performance improvements for PHP on IIS7
  • Configuring PHP on IIS7
  • Improving PHP performance plus tuning and extending it on IIS7

2. PHP 5.3 - What to expect - Part 1 - Timothy Chandler

Tim will kick off our 3 part look at the important upcoming release of PHP 5.3 - which is looking to be one of the biggest releases feature-wise in PHP history.
Part 1 will provide an overview of what to expect from 5.3, covering minor changes and important gotchas. Finally, Tim will provide a quick overview of the major 5.3 changes being covered in parts 2 and 3, including Lambda functions, Closures, Namespaces, Internationalisation and Phar.
